Thank you for your inquiry about the Discover Mojave Outdoor World program.
The Outdoor World program has provided unique recreational experiences on public lands in and around Las Vegas to thousands of youth and families in southern Nevada for the past six years.
The tremendous success of this program has been the result of a collaborative effort by the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Public Lands Institute with funding from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.
This program has given students a rare opportunity to recreate outdoors through activities such as fishing, kayaking, hiking, and snowshoeing. These enriching experiences introduced youth to public lands surrounding Las Vegas and promoted leadership skills, healthy peer relationships, and positive attitudes.
After many successes, we regret to inform you that current funding for this program ended May 31, 2011 therefore the UNLV Public Lands Institute will not be managing the Outdoor World program past May 2011. The Southern Nevada Agency Partnership and the Public Lands Institute are seeking new sources of funding, but at this time no funding is available.
For information about recreational opportunities in southern Nevada please contact Megan Urban with the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership at 293-8708.
If you are interested in helping with the efforts to continue the Discover Mojave Outdoor World program please contact Kate Hanson, Executive Director, Southern Nevada Agency Partnership; 702-293-8951. The Southern Nevada Agency Partnership is comprised of the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service.
