PROJECT OVERVIEW
Forever Earth, 70-foot houseboat, is a floating water and environmental science laboratory and learning center at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Lake Mead, a Colorado River reservoir, is the principal source of drinking water for more than one million residents in the Las Vegas urban area. It is also distributed into systems that serve more than 25 million people in Arizona, California, and Mexico. Further involvement by our students, scientists and the community in the research and monitoring of Lake Mead will help to expand our knowledge of this important resource and potentially lead to strategies to protect it.
The Forever Earth boat is located or berthed at Callville Bay Marina, approximately 45 minutes driving time from Las Vegas. It is available to agencies, organizations, researchers, educators, and groups for work that aligns with one or more of the purposes of the program. Forever Earth serves four principal purposes:
1) Environmental Education;
2) Scientific Studies/Research;
3) Water Quality Monitoring and
4) Command Post.
